Spanish retrospectively charge Germany 100 billion euros for Mario Gomez

The Spanish have come up with their best plan yet for dealing with their banking crisis – charging Germany 100 billion euros for international striker Mario Gomez – but it is still a load of tosh.

The Spaniard’s header gave his adopted nation a 1-0 victory in their group game against Portugal, giving Spain’s government hope of twisting Angela Merkel’s arm as the eurozone queues up for her to give them money that they will then argue they do not have to pay back.

Merkel has reacted with some interest to the proposal, and is keen to negotiate quickly before Manchester City swoop in with a bigger bid.
