“Drought-hit” UK regions almost ready to host Olympic water sports

Parade plans torched

Areas of the UK which are officially in drought also happen to be more or less ready to act as substitute venues for a variety of water sports in the Olympic Games this summer.

Despite the “drought” sweeping across the country, weeks of heavy rain mean East Anglia now resembles on Olympic-standard sailing lake.

Organisers may also soon face a conundrum in choosing between hosting events on the Thames or on the submerged M4 corridor.

A London 2012 spokesperson warned, “Wherever we choose to take the athletes, the same rules will still apply.

“Use of hosepipes in some of the locations will result in automatic disqualification.

“Sorry to put a dampener on things.”
