“I’m winding you lot up,” Capello reveals

England manager Fabio Capello has pulled off a world-class prank by revealing today that his controversial comments contesting the FA’s action over John Terry were simply a “bit of a joke”.

The FA decided to ‘strip’ Terry of the captaincy because of the racism allegations surrounding him, but Capello initially said on Italian media that he thought the idea was “dafter than selecting David Beckham for the Olympics.”

Yet another England WAG

“I mean, what’s the point?” Capello was translated as saying.

“It’s not like they’re ever going to win anything anyway.”

But his comments today have sought to defuse the situation by claiming it was all a bit of a wind-up gone wrong.

The Italian revealed, “Being stuck in dressing-rooms with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Glen Johnson for minutes at a time, it’s possible that the British sense of humour I’ve picked up isn’t to everyone’s tastes.

“Of course, if I wasn’t joking, it would basically be me showing my complete contempt for the people who pay me such ridiculous sums to do a job which no-one could ever be successful at.

“You don’t really think I’d do that, do you?”
