Money to burn

French club Paris Saint-Germain seem hell-bent on wasting money on someone in the January transfer window as, following news that David Beckham would stay with LA Galaxy, their interest in Carlos Tevez was swiftly announced.

New manager Carlo Ancellotti is apparently obliged to find a suitable target for the club’s wealthy owners to waste hordes of foreign cash on, which might make the Italian think he never left Chelsea.

Tevez’s current club Manchester City announced, “We are in talks with PSG over selling but they’re still some way off the astronomical sums that we usually part with.

“Carlos is a good player on those rare occasions where he’s not playing truant and we will only accept an exhorbitant fee which reflects that.

“PSG should remember that, this time last year, Fernando Torres was being bought for £50m and Andy Carroll for £35m.”
