Harry Redknapp has entered into characteristic wheeling-dealing negotiations during the transfer window with police over the amount of money he was mugged for in Spain.

The Spurs manager was robbed whilst attending a Copa del Rey match and phoned his agent immediately after realising how much cash had been taken in order to open the bargaining process with HMRC.

A Met police spokesman confirmed, “We did indeed receive a phone call on Thursday night from someone in Spain calling themselves ‘Arry.

He ain't no mug

“He quickly asked us whether we would take the stolen amount off his potential tax evasion fine.

“We said no but he came back and offered to throw in Roman Pavlyuchenko as part of the deal.

“We have to admit we’re considering it as he’s actually very persuasive.”
