Moyes warns Everton supporters of inactive transfer window after disappointing Christmas card revenue

Everton’s David Moyes has told supporters that the club will not be looking to spend money in the January transfer window due to a lack of cash received in Christmas cards from elderly relatives.

Everton's manager ponders the effects of the recession on his transfer budget

The Scot was hoping for a small windfall to enable him to gamble on more than just a dodgy loan signing this month, but the necessary funds have not been forthcoming.

Others are unlikely to be feeling charitable towards the club either after their diabolical late win against West Brom today.

“It kicked off well with a whopping £20 from Aunt Jan,” Moyes said, “but Gran sent me pyjamas.

“She didn’t enclose the receipt so I can’t claim a refund.

“I was expecting at least a tenner from Uncle Bill (Kenwright) but didn’t even receive a card.

“Guess he’s cutting back yet again.”
