FA release 1,317-page guide to offside rule
The FA has released a 1,317-page guide in the hope that it will clarify its position in regards to modern interpretations of the offside rule.
Many are anticipating reading something which complicates something quite simple beyond belief, and its release on a Sunday morning has only added to universal irritation.
It comes on the back of the relatively brief explanation for Luis Suarez’s ban, and the document uses clear diagrams and simple language to avoid confusing any readers (especially professional footballers) who find the wording or general concept too challenging, like Darren Bent.
The accompanying notes read, “The FA presents this guide to the offside rule in the admittedly vain hope of preventing hysterical reactions by clubs who have decisions go against them.
“This expansive yet concise document even tackles contemporary ‘grey’ areas which have caused so much debate in the last few seasons.
“This is because, as another recent publication proves, not everything is a simple case of black or white in the world of football.”
I hope there is a nice, concise section titled “Can the linesman see daylight?”.
They would have to specify that they mean daylight between attacker and defender or things could get confusing.
