Phil Jones ‘is northern footballing Jesus’

Grossly-overrated second coming

As sycophancy levels surrounding Manchester United’s Phil Jones reach catastrophic proportions, some are going even further by suggesting the youngster could be Jesus returned to Earth in raw, English footballing form.

Decent performances against world-class opponents Wolves and QPR have been more than enough for over-excited journalists to seize on Jones as one of very few United players to be playing well this season.

This has proven to be the catalyst for the hype to go spiralling out of all rational control, in perfect time for the European Championships and Olympic Games next summer.

Phil Neville confirmed, “He’s like a young Roy Keane.

“Except he hasn’t developed a psychotic reflex towards people who tackle him yet.”

When the press build up a young player like this, it gives them something to talk about. Then when that player inevitably single-handedly fails to score six goals against Brazil at the World Cup, it gives them something to talk about again by saying he is overrated.
