Crystal Palace players to play like they’re on strike tonight

At the end of a record-breaking day of public-sector strikes in Britain, Crystal Palace players are expected to do their bit in their fight against the coalition by performing as if they were on strike in tonight’s Carling Cup match at Old Trafford.

Footballers are unlikely to be affected at all by pay freezes and pension cuts, but that has never stopped visiting teams not bothering to perform against Manchester United.

Palace boss Dougie Freeman said, “None of the players have told me they’ll be participating in any strike so I anticipate they’ll just bottle it like any other team would.

“Especially Spurs.

“The first team hasn’t scored for so long it’s as if they’re taking action permanently so no-one should be shocked if we get a good whalloping.”
