With many in the UK expected to go on strike in Wednesday’s public-sector action, followers of Manchester United are wondering when winger Ashley Young’s own private strike will end.

Young’s protests have been evident for all to see in recent matches where, despite his manager selecting him on a number of occasions, he has failed to do anything.

Concern is growing across the United fan base over the possibility that continuing industrial action by the England international could result in future appearances similar to that against Newcastle on Saturday.

Long-term supporter Lars from Oslo said, “At the beginning of the season he was running around, even making some crosses and scoring a goal or two. Now he’s playing like Antonio Valencia but without the energy.

“We don’t know what his beef is but even Unison would be proud.

“This is on top of Berbatov and Owen who appear to have been striking – or not in this case – for years.”
