McLaren backs Redknapp for national slaughtering after Capello

Former England disaster Steve McLaren has suggested that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has the essential criteria to become the next national laughing stock after Fabio Capello’s contract runs out in the summer.

McLaren should know best, given the horrific run the team went on under his leadership, culminating in England missing out on Euro 2008 – much to the delight of the rest of Europe.

McLaren said, “Harry’s credentials are as good as anybody else’s.

“He has experience and a respectable record in a number of competitions without actually winning anything of note.

“I know he won an FA cup but does anyone care about that anymore?

“This makes him perfect canon-fodder for you morons in the media.

“Over the decades he has built up a reputation by being outstandingly mediocre, which means that he can be brought crashing down to earth better than no other by sports ‘journalists’ across the country as England embark on future pointless endeavours in their eternal quest for success and global respect which must eventually always remain fruitless.

“Trust me, I know about these things.”
