Toon Army baying for Pardew’s head after first league defeat

Newcastle United supporters have taken to the streets around St James’s Park in protest at Alan Pardew’s tenure as manager following their first league loss of the season.

The defeat was completed unexpected by fans who were anticipating emulating Arsenal in going the whole season unbeaten, but their wildly-unrealistic ambitions were brought crashing down to earth by leaders Manchester City on Saturday.

The home crowd was aware of what was about to happen even before the final whistle blew, chanting deliriously, “You’re getting sacked in the morning!” towards Pardew’s forlorn touchline figure, despite the Magpies remaining comfortably in the top four in the table.

They were given weight by those in black and white who, at the prospect of seeing their team lose, shouted, “Pardew out! Pardew out!”

Furious segments of the Toon Army could be heard and seen in Newcastle after the match, waving flags and singing, “There’s only one Kevin Keegan!”

A fuming supporter reigned in his temper to tell us, “We lost today and that’s completely unacceptable to the entire Newcastle United fan-base.

“If Pardew is allowed to continue we risk missing out on Champions League qualification, which is the least we should be hoping for.”
