Steve Kean thanking referee worse than Blackburn

Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean is reportedly adding another name to his Christmas card list after referee Andre Marriner’s performance rescued a point for his team against Wigan on Saturday.

Marriner gifted the visitors any number of early presents as Rovers somehow snatched a point with a last-gasp penalty in injury-time, although the main talking point came when Morten Gamst Pedersen was allowed to dribble into the box from a corner to set up a goal.

A relieved Kean said, “Andre was absolutely fantastic for us at the DW and I’ll be sure to repay his generosity over the festive period.

“My budget might be limited fairly soon though coz I’m still pretty sure I’ll get the sack before Christmas itself.

“But if Andre’s available for us in the coming weeks, Man City beware!”

Enraged Wigan boss Roberto Martinez fumed after the match that his club’s “small voice” meant that decisions against them were overlooked, but no-one was really taking any notice.
