Don Garber: Beckham “great” for MLS revenue

With David Beckham due to play his last match in the US today, MLS boss Don Garber has praised the “great” contribution the Englishman has made to the league’s financial figures.

This season has seen a 7% increase in attendance across the MLS – a figure which far exceeds the amount of time Beckham has spent on the pitch.

“David maximises income with minimal effort, and this is what US sportspeople are always looking for,” Garber said.

“He has maintained his world-class ability to get the public to part with their hard-earned cash.

“This is what Major League Soccer is all about.”

BBC sports editor David Bond added, “It’s remarkable that the level of interest in Beckham fails to diminish, no matter how much his playing ability does.

“They could probably still rake it in by wheeling him about in a wheelchair when he’s in his 90s.”

Those Yanks would monetise nose-picking if they could.

So would I actually, I would earn a fortune from my own disgusting habit.
