F1 drivers protest against gadget which causes some excitement

F1 drivers have collectively spoken out against the amount that they are able to use the DRS system, which allows for more overtaking and therefore slightly more interest – something they deem a major safety risk.

They have asked for the use of DRS to be limited much more so as to minimise the number of opportunities they have to create a spectacle for viewers.

Drivers’ representative Mark Webber warned, “This season we’ve been able to use it even in practice and qualifying and that’s just crazy.

“We’ve got enough to worry about with Lewis Hamilton crashing about on every corner without the rest being tempted to overtake as well.

“There have been a few incidents where the drivers have gone off because of using the button in order to go past someone and not been able to handle the resulting excitement.

“That’s not why we’re in F1.”
