Capello confident youngsters can flatter to deceive at Euro 2012

Following the 1-0 friendly win over Sweden, England manager Fabio Capello has announced he is considering selecting the new crop of youngsters to perform well below expectations at next summer’s European Championships.

England needed an accurate, headed own-goal to give them victory against the Swedes on Tuesday, but that hasn’t stopped fans claiming that Phil Jones, Jack Rodwell and others are ready to destroy all opposition with horrendous direct football.

On exiting Wembley Jim Peterson argued, “They beat Spain so that means they’re the best in the world innit!”

Capello confirmed, “I’ve been delighted with what I’ve seen in the last two matches. The new lads are putting in 110% only to leave supporters on the edge of their seats by lacking the quality to finish a series of simple chances to score.

“As someone who’s not English, I’m very tempted to play them next summer as the rest of the world loves to mock your sad, deluded sporting nation.

“I’m more or less convinced that the players coming through have what it takes to flatter to deceive when it doesn’t matter and then deceive like true English footballers when it really does.”

    This makes me sad 😦

Still, when we win the World Cup it will be me who is laughing.
