Strauss: Don’t bet on the ICC anti-corruption unit

In the aftermath of Pakistan cricketers being found guilty of corruption, England’s Andrew Strauss has suggested that there are long odds on the ICC unit being of any use.

Strauss claimed that the lack of resources meant that any ‘inquiries’ would be about as trustworthy as a no-ball bowled by Mohammad Amir.

“They don’t even have the capabilities to do what the News of the World did. It’s pathetic,” Strauss warned.

“I just told some of them that it might be worth having a flutter on England declaring too early in the first test match of next summer’s series, and they ran off to the bookies without so much as a second’s thought.

“I’d hope there’s only a tiny minority of cricketers involved in these scams, but I certainly wouldn’t bet on it.”
