English FA not embarrassed enough already

November 4, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

The English FA have revealed they don’t feel that having John Terry as captain is enough to generate the customary derision and loathing of England at next summer’s European Championships, and have appealed to UEFA to reconsider Wayne Rooney’s three-match ban.

With England’s qualification for the tournament confirmed, the appeal comes as Fabio Capello hopes to pick the optimum squad to disappoint the nation.

An FA statement read, “We feel that three games is too harsh a punishment as it has become very likely that Rooney will miss out on contributing to England’s failure to qualify from the group.

“He was a key figure during our humiliation at last year’s World Cup and it is a certainty that the competition as a whole would benefit from having one of the planet’s most high-profile players there – in order to take the mick fully.

“Let us choose Rooney and everyone’s a winner – apart from England of course.

“But we don’t have a hope anyway.”
