Tony Pulis incomprehensible to many football supporters

Tony Pulis’s inexplicable efforts to blame referee Lee Probert for Stoke’s defeat to Liverpool in the Carling Cup last night have compounded the confusion he instils in many supporters who don’t actually live in Stoke.

Pulis was furious at Probert for not sending off Jamie Carragher and then for not awarding a series of penalties to his team during a horrendous late bombardment in what could be called anything apart from football.

Pulis ranted, “I’ve got a lot of respect for Carragher but we don’t like to see challenges like that at the Britannia.

“It was high, wild and barely made contact with the ball. However, we normally expect our players to cause some kind of injury to the opponent, and he didn’t do that, so I thought he should have come off.

“Then I’ll just complain about not getting decisions at the end because the way my team plays no-one knows what’s going on anyway nor can they prove me wrong so why not?”

His opposite number Kenny Dalglish quietly said, “I don’t know what happened out there or what they were trying to do, but I’m delighted that we won.

“We can now look forward to playing important football matches against West Brom and Swansea, instead of…that.”
