France curious as to how much IRB will charge England

Still resentful at being fined £2,500 for advancing on New Zealand’s haka during the Rugby World Cup final, France have asked the IRB how much England’s fine will be for their own version of “breaching cultural protocol”.

The French are not so much angry as perplexed as to how walking forward as a show of defiance against their hosts can be worthy of financial punishment, when Martin Johnson’s men, who frolicked with women in clubs, allegedly took part in dwarf-throwing events, and even jumped off a ferry, have seemingly got away scot-free.

Captain Theirry Dusautoir argued, “We understand we may have crossed the line – literally – and infringed upon something we didn’t fully appreciate, but we don’t see how this can be deemed worse than being English.

“We admit that we showed a lack of respect to New Zealand’s valued tradition, but it was nothing compared to what Mike Tindall got up to on a night out.

“If we breached cultural protocol, I don’t know how to describe their behaviour.”
