Foreign owners ‘want guarantee of future Premier League income’

October 17, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

Several foreign-owned Premier League clubs want relegation scrapped so that they can be assured of being able to count on the television revenue supporting their other operations for years to come.

League Managers Association chief Richard Bevan expressed concerns that, if more clubs were taken over by foreign investors, they would be able to vote through whatever ludicrous ideas they fancied, even something as farfetched as adding  a 39th game.

“If we have four or five new owners, that could happen,” he warned.

He also argued that new owners wouldn’t have to be foreign to join the group that want relegation scrapped.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re from Birmingham or Burma, does it? As soon as they work out that scrapping relegation will improve their cash flow, they’ll be all for it.”
